Couchsurfing Egypt is a non-profit organization that considers itself to be the Gateway to Egyptian Society. It offers tours, events, and a real opportunity to meet and make new friends from all around the world who come to Egypt for study, for tourism, and for work. Some of these new friendships could become lifelong relationships because of the close bonds formed within this group. Couchsurfing Egypt provides a true experience in Egyptian hospitality also through its many volunteer activities.
For those people who are tourists for a short period or for those who plan to live and stay in Egypt for a longer period of time, this organization can help you discover all one needs to know about adapting to the lifestyle and culture of Egypt. It provided its members with information about secret and amazing places known only by Egyptians and tips that are not known by typical travel agencies. Couchsurfing’s goal is to change not only the way its members travel but also the ways in which they relate to the world.
Every Tuesday members gather at the famous Cairo Opera House for meetings. This provides members the opportunity to get to know each other well and to plan activities and events that will be enjoyable as well as educational. It also provides a true Egyptian cultural experience. Foreigners have the chance to interact with many locals with varying backgrounds.
In the past two months, four outside events were planned for all to enjoy. On August 11, members went horseback riding on the desert with the pyramids in Giza in view. September included an event called “Summer Journey 2013 and CSBD Beach Party” in Marsa Matrouh on September 6, a Felucca Dance Competition with Mina on September 24, and a Hawaiian Party called “Let’s Make It Hawaiian-Yacht Party” in El Sokhna. Many fun activities such as these occur each and every month.
I found this quote on the Facebook page of Couchsurfing Egypt and now wish to share it with you. I think it describes this worthwhile and highly beneficial organization quite effectively.
“As a community worldwide we strive to do our individual and collective parts to make the world a better place, and we believe that the surfing of couches is a means to accomplish this goal. CouchSurfing isn’t about the furniture- it’s not just about finding free accommodations around the world- it’s about participating in creating a better world. We strive to make a better world by opening our homes, our hearts, and our lives. We open our minds and welcome the knowledge that cultural exchange makes available. We create deep and meaningful connections that cross oceans, continents and cultures. CouchSurfing wants to change not only the way we travel, but how we relate to the world!”….. Couchsurfing Said.
