Part of what makes the Christmas season fun but also maddening and stressful at the same time is shopping for gifts and preparing the house for the perfect holiday. I am a shopper and love to find great bargains, and I adore decorating my house inside and outside. Because I am busy with all so many holiday festivities these days, I will simply share a poem that I wrote about my shopping obsession. I hope you find it humorous. Some of you may even identify with me in some ways.
HOLIDAY MADNESS!
By Randi D. Ward
Oh my goodness, it is that wonderful and glorious time of the year
When everything is supposed to be jolly and full of good cheer.
For the most part this is absolutely, positively, incredibly true
Unless you become obsessive in the preparations you think you must do.
I admit I want all things to be so perfectly special and totally right
So this busy time of year can really test my energy levels and might.
I spend many weeks totally decorating my home inside and out
And refuse to stop doing this until I have absolutely no doubt
That each room, each door, each window, and each wall is filled to the max
With just the right touch before I can allow myself to stop and completely relax.
Next is the planning of the menu and the preparation of the big meals
So I start shopping early to search for all the good and money saving deals
To ensure the dinner cuisine will be perfect and delicious and fit for a king,
And along with this shopping is the constant search for the gifts Santa and I will bring
To the wonderful friends and family members that mean so very much to me
So every gift must be chosen carefully so it will be the very best it can be.
Of course, there are the festive parties and the holiday caroling that add so much joy
And do allow me some much needed fun time to occasionally rest and to actually enjoy,
But as the big day gets closer and closer, my stress levels grow more and more
And I begin to dream of that day after when I will have the opportunity to restore
My peace of mind and my physical wellness and have the time to truly remember
Why every year at this time we celebrate this magical and special day in December.
So Happy Birthday, beloved Jesus! Your birthday is the real and true reason
Why we give gifts and share our love and good wishes during this amazing season!
